About the Picture of the 4 x 4 Post Above

The 4 x 4 redwood post showing in the picture above was treated when new. It was part of the railing on a walkway over an irrigation ditch, under willow trees in Wyoming. After 3 years of NO maintenance work at all, I washed the right side of the post with just cold water from a pressure washer. You can see that the oxidized and mildewed coloration on the left was totally removed and the wood looks like new. The color of the right side of the picture is enhanced because the wood was still wet when I took the picture. But when it dried, it returned to the color of new untreated redwood.

The important point is: no additional PetraWood needed to be applied because it is PERMANENT. So in order to keep the wood in good shape, it just requires occasional cleaning with water and you NEVER have to add more material.

This is the cheapest and easiest way to keep exterior wood from deteriorating. It is not a wood finish...but rather an "internal" protector. PetraWood does not work until it gets 1 or 2 mm down into the wood. So the top about 1/16" of the surface has no product in it. Thus, you can apply other finishes over it IF you are mainly concerned with cosmetics and are not satisfied with the natural look of wood.
